{"id":21318,"date":"2026-09-07T16:48:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T16:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/2026\/09\/07\/un-taliban-ban-afghan-women-working-offices-aid\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T16:48:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T16:48:16","slug":"un-taliban-ban-afghan-women-working-offices-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/2026\/09\/07\/un-taliban-ban-afghan-women-working-offices-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"UN calls for immediate lifting of ban on Afghan women working in its offices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the first anniversary of the ban on Afghan female staff working in United Nations offices in Afghanistan is marked, the organisation has once again called on the Taliban administration to lift the restrictions unconditionally, restrictions that have also affected women\u2019s participation in aid delivery and humanitarian work.<\/p>\n<p>Jorge Moreira da Silva, the UN deputy secretary-general and executive director of the organisation\u2019s Project Services office, wrote on Sunday in a post on the social media platform X that one year had passed since the Taliban administration barred Afghan female UN employees from entering the organisation\u2019s offices and facilities across the country.<\/p>\n<p>He described the move as a &#8220;difficult turning point&#8221; for Afghanistan and stressed that Afghan female staff play an essential and irreplaceable role in advancing the UN mission and delivering aid to those in need. According to him, the women and girls of Afghanistan must be able to return to school, work and take part in shaping the country\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>Da Silva also said that he and other senior UN officials were calling on the Taliban administration to immediately remove the restrictions imposed on women and create the conditions for female staff to return to the organisation\u2019s offices.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time as this anniversary, the United Nations has launched protest and symbolic actions to express solidarity with the women of Afghanistan.
