A new poll in the United States shows that voter support for Donald Trump\u2019s handling of the economy and cost of living has declined, increasing pressure on Republicans ahead of congressional midterm elections. The survey found that a significant share of respondents rejected Trump\u2019s economic and trade policies and voiced concern about rising prices.<\/p>\n
According to findings from a joint poll by the Financial Times and the London School of Economics and Political Science, only 38% of voters supported Trump\u2019s management of the economy, while 56% did not approve of his performance in this area. In addition, 53% of participants rejected his performance on the economy and cost of living, a figure described as the lowest level of approval in this area since the start of his second presidential term.<\/p>\n
In trade as well, 52% of respondents opposed Trump\u2019s trade and tariff policies. More than half of those surveyed said new import tariffs would push up the price of goods and have a negative effect on their families\u2019 cost of living.<\/p>\n
The decline in support is also visible among Trump\u2019s political base. Only 53% of Republican supporters backed his handling of the economy, down 8 percentage points from last month.<\/p>\n
The poll data also show that 42% of voters approved of Trump\u2019s overall performance, while 53% disapproved. Support for him stood at 48% among men and 36% among women.<\/p>\n
In a separate assessment of economic performance, 43% of voters approved and 54% disapproved. The published results also show that Trump\u2019s popularity has fallen to its lowest level during his presidency, with the situation described as worrying for the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections.<\/p>\n
Politico also reported, citing official figures, that the value of exports of food products, agricultural goods and machinery to Europe has fallen by more than $13 billion over the past three months. This comes as the European Union faces 25% and 50% tariffs from the US administration.<\/p>\n
The Trump administration has said the aim of the new tariffs is to reduce the US trade deficit and strengthen domestic production, but economists and experts have warned that these policies could lead to higher prices and deepen public dissatisfaction. Field reports from key states also show that concerns over inflation and rising tariffs are pushing some independent voters toward Democrats.<\/p>\n
The poll was conducted among 1,093 registered voters between August 29 and 31.
