According to the source, the arrests took place when about 50 to 60 Shia clerics and community figures intended to hold a meeting at the office of the “Public Relations of Hazaras and Shia Elders.”

The source added that the purpose of the meeting was to review the detention of a number of teachers and students from the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary and to pursue their release by approaching Taliban officials. According to him, the Taliban administration became aware of the plan before the meeting was held.

According to the report, the Taliban governor in Kabul first contacted Sufi Gharzai, head of the office of the “Public Relations of Hazaras and Shia Elders,” and summoned him to the provincial office. The source says that after arriving there, Gharzai was taken by Taliban intelligence forces to the Ministry of Justice in Darul Aman, after which his phone went out of reach.

According to the source, the Taliban governor in Kabul warned Sufi Gharzai: “Do not forget the era of Abdul Rahman Khan!” The source also said that the cook and two guards from the said office were also detained, and that none of the five people taken from this office have yet been released.

The source said the detainees’ mobile phones are out of reach and there is still no clear information about their condition after the arrests. The office of the “Public Relations of Hazaras and Shia Elders” was also operating from a house belonging to Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the Islamic Unity Party of the People of Afghanistan, in the Sar-e Karez area.

These arrests came after the Taliban administration sent its forces to the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary on Saturday, 14 Sunbula, to evacuate the seminary buildings. Following protests, 28 teachers and students were detained and taken to the third security district of Kabul city; an Etilaat Roz source confirmed that four of them have been released, while the other 24 remain in detention.

At the same time, the Taliban administration yesterday also halted the broadcasts of TOLO Farda TV, which had previously operated under the ownership of Mohammad Mohaqiq.
