Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan, has described the new agreement between Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and the Saudi Delta company as a positive sign for attracting major international investment.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the signing ceremony for the contract in Kabul, he said the deal shows Afghanistan is more ready than before for trade and large-scale investment. According to him, the development could send an encouraging message for the country’s economy.<\/p>\n
Khalilzad added that Afghanistan has long been seen as a land bridge between Central Asia and South Asia. He said Central Asia’s vast resources and South Asia’s large and growing market have given Afghanistan an important economic position.<\/p>\n
According to him, Afghanistan also has significant natural resources that could help meet part of the needs of regional and international markets. He added that making use of these capacities could create new opportunities for economic growth.<\/p>\n
Khalilzad called the deal a “positive and promising” development and said the people of Afghanistan, after decades of war, face extensive economic needs. He ended by congratulating both sides of the contract and welcoming what he described as an important event for Afghanistan’s investment outlook.<\/p>\n
