The Human Rights Activists Union has called on the Pakistani government to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation into the fate of two Afghan citizens, journalist and media activist Seyed Qasem Hashemi and filmmaker and cultural activist Hamid Ehsas, two months after they went missing.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Friday, September 4, the group said that despite two months having passed since the disappearance of the two cultural and media figures in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, their status remains unclear.<\/p>\n
The statement said that in recent days, unverified information has reached the families and close associates of the two men, suggesting they may have been detained by a Pakistani intelligence agency.<\/p>\n
The Human Rights Activists Union stressed that if Hashemi and Ehsas are being held by Pakistani security or intelligence agencies, their families and the public have the right to know their place of detention, their physical condition, the legal basis for their arrest, and the status of any judicial proceedings against them.<\/p>\n
The group added that if the two men have not been detained, the Pakistani government is responsible for conducting an effective and transparent investigation to determine their fate and clarify the outcome.<\/p>\n
The Human Rights Activists Union also called on human rights and international bodies, including the United Nations mechanisms related to enforced disappearances, to urgently pursue the case.<\/p>\n
So far, Pakistani security and intelligence agencies have not made any explicit comment on the disappearance of the two Afghan cultural and media activists.<\/p>\n
