Ukraine’s foreign intelligence service has said that Belarus’s reception of a delegation from the Taliban administration, together with its ties to North Korea and Myanmar, shows that Minsk’s level of diplomacy has moved closer to “terrorists and military groups.”<\/p>\n
In a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the agency said Belarus is drawing closer to North Korea, the Taliban administration and a Myanmar group, parties that, according to Ukraine, face sanctions, international isolation or accusations of crimes against their own people.<\/p>\n
According to Ukraine’s foreign intelligence service, the Taliban administration delegation was in Belarus for five days and during that time visited the Academy of Sciences, BelAZ, a tractor factory and the Slutsk cheese factory. The agency also said Belarus had tried to keep the trip secret.<\/p>\n
Ukraine says the reason for the secrecy was that some members of the Taliban administration delegation are still listed by Belarusian security agencies as members of terrorist organizations.<\/p>\n
About three weeks ago, media affiliated with the Taliban administration reported the visit to Belarus of a 13-member delegation led by Ataullah Omari, the acting minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock of the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
Belarus is considered a close ally of Russia, which has been attacking Ukraine for the past four years and occupies parts of its territory. Since the start of the war, Ukraine has repeatedly warned about Minsk’s cooperation with Russia’s allies and sanctioned actors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
