International relations, he said, should be based on the equality of states, with countries enjoying equal rights regardless of size or power.

Xi also said major powers should lead by example in observing the rules and work together to address global challenges. He added that differences and regional issues should be managed and resolved through dialogue and consultation.

China’s foreign ministry said in a statement that the president also referred in his remarks to the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. He described the bloc as the world’s largest regional cooperation organisation in terms of territory, population and development potential, and defined the “Shanghai spirit” as based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation and respect for the diversity of civilisations.

The Chinese president said shared development and prosperity were the organisation’s top priority and called for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy and infrastructure connectivity. He also stressed the development of cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, green industries and green minerals.

According to him, Beijing will implement new projects with SCO members with the capacity of 10 million kilowatts of solar power and 10 million kilowatts of wind power. He also called on countries to take part in the “shared large market; exports to China” initiative.

Xi described comprehensive security as the second major pillar of cooperation and said member states should act in coordination against threats such as transnational organised crime, drug trafficking, telecom fraud, information security, biosecurity and space security. He also warned against foreign forces interfering in the internal affairs of countries.

He said China was ready to pursue the concept of “common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security” with members of the organisation and supported the launch of the SCO’s “four security centres” to boost member states’ capacity to confront security threats.

The Chinese president also said his country was ready to strengthen communication and coordination with other parties on major international crises, including Ukraine, the Middle East and Afghanistan. He stressed the need to address both the causes and consequences of crises in parallel and to resolve them politically.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a regional body whose members include China, Russia and several countries in Central and South Asia. It was established in 2001, and in recent years security, economic issues and regional cooperation have been among the main topics of its meetings.

Xi Jinping calls for stronger SCO security and economic cooperation, urging members to coordinate on global and regional challenges.

[17,6

post-20896","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-international
["GET
