Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek that peace and stability in Afghanistan are closely linked to security and stability across Eurasia.<\/p>\n
He identified security, regional connectivity and economic opportunities as the three main pillars of India\u2019s vision for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, adding that New Delhi would continue its development and humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Modi also stressed that there should be no \u201cdouble standards\u201d in the fight against terrorism and called for the dismantling of all structures that support terrorism. He said financing, recruitment, radicalisation and safe havens must be fully targeted.<\/p>\n
The Indian prime minister described terrorism as a grave threat to humanity and said countries that use terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy or provide shelter and support to terrorists should receive a clear message that no country can use terrorism as a strategic asset.<\/p>\n
In another part of his remarks on the West Asia crisis, he said conflicts are not resolved on the battlefield and that dialogue and diplomacy must be relied upon to reduce regional tensions.<\/p>\n
Modi also described drug trafficking and organised crime as serious threats to young people and regional security, and called on SCO member states to strengthen their cooperation to contain these challenges.<\/p>\n
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a regional body made up of several Asian and Eurasian countries, with security, economic issues and regional cooperation among the main themes of its meetings.
