The Afghan United Front has said its forces targeted and killed an intelligence employee and member of the Taliban authorities’ council of Ulema in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. The front also said it recovered a pistol belonging to the man.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Monday, 9 Sunbula, the front said the operation was carried out in the Manar Chowk area of Spin Boldak district. In the statement, the Afghan United Front identified the man killed as a member of the Taliban authorities’ intelligence service.<\/p>\n
The Taliban authorities have not yet commented officially on the incident. For this reason, the details of the attack and the identity of the man killed have not been independently verified.<\/p>\n
A day earlier, the Afghan United Front had also claimed that nine members of the group were killed in two separate attacks on two Taliban checkpoints in Helmand province. It said weapons and ammunition from the two checkpoints were also seized after the attacks.<\/p>\n
The Afghan United Front, led by Sami Sadat, a former commander of the special forces of Afghanistan’s previous government army, announced the start of military operations against the Taliban authorities on Aug. 1.
