The electricity transmission project in a number of areas of Gardez, the capital of Paktia province, has been completed and put into operation. According to officials, it currently covers 1,050 families, while thousands of others still do not have access to power.<\/p>\n
Local residents welcomed the arrival of electricity after years of waiting, saying the service is an essential part of life, but stressed that many families in these areas still need to be connected to the power grid.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Anwar Rashid, head of Paktia Power, said the project was implemented at a cost of 41 million Afghanis and had started earlier. He said the programme was launched to provide electricity to about 4,000 families, and the remaining families are expected to be covered in later stages.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Anwar Dinparwar, deputy governor of Paktia, also said 1,050 families have benefited from the current project and expressed hope that electricity will reach remote areas in the future.<\/p>\n
Paktia Power says it is trying to bring imported electricity to all areas of Gardez city during the current solar year. According to the department, work on a number of projects has reached its final stage and the process of transmitting electricity to them will begin soon.<\/p>\n
