Iraj Masjedi, deputy coordinator of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, has praised the role of the Fatemiyoun forces and the so-called ‘Afghanistan martyrs’ in the fight against takfiri and terrorist groups.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Ma’mar TV, he said the role of the ‘dear martyrs of Afghanistan’ in supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran and fighting takfiris and terrorists had been ‘extraordinary.’<\/p>\n
Masjedi also described relations between Iran and Afghanistan as close, saying the two countries need broad cooperation because of their shared border and economic and cultural ties. According to him, the two ‘dear, Muslim, brotherly and neighbouring nations’ have always stood by each other.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks in response to a question about the presence of Afghan migrants and nationals at various programmes and events in Iran, a presence the interview described as a sign of solidarity between the two peoples.<\/p>\n
In another part of the interview, the Quds Force deputy coordinator explained the meaning of ‘martyrs without borders,’ saying that in his view, those who fight in defence of ‘truth’ are not confined by geographic borders. He referred in this context to the presence of Iraqi fighters in the Iran-Iraq war and also Afghan and Iraqi forces in the war in Syria.<\/p>\n
Masjedi also referred to the commemoration of 16 people in South Khorasan as ‘martyrs without borders,’ saying the term applies to those who, he said, fought in defence of Islam, security and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
