Local officials in Helmand say a woman working in the health sector in the province died after taking several pills, in an incident they say followed persistent abuse and beatings by her husband.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Qasim Riyaz, the governor\u2019s spokesman in Helmand, told Ariana News that the woman worked in the health sector and had attempted suicide because of her husband\u2019s violent behaviour. He said she died after consuming several pills.<\/p>\n
He also rejected reports circulated on social media and said claims that a female doctor killed herself after being dismissed from her job in Sangin district were \u201cbaseless.\u201d According to the governor\u2019s spokesman, her dismissal from the health post was not true and the stories published on the matter were a rumour.<\/p>\n
Officials said the woman\u2019s husband has been arrested and will be handed over to judicial authorities for legal proceedings.<\/p>\n
