The continued deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan has raised fresh concerns among the migrants. Some say arrests, deportations and harassment by police in the two countries have increased, and many face the fear of forced return.<\/p>\n
Yasmin Yaqeen, an Afghan migrant in Pakistan, said human rights defenders and former military personnel are not migrants, but refugees, and are struggling with health and education restrictions. She added that fear of the police has risen to the point that some migrants do not even leave their homes to buy basic food supplies.<\/p>\n
Nahid, an Afghan migrant in Iran, also described forced return to Afghanistan as a threat to the lives, dignity and future of migrants. She called for the situation not to be ignored and for support to be provided to Afghan migrants.<\/p>\n
Pikar, a journalist in Pakistan, also said fear of arrest, deportation and return to Afghanistan has spread among migrants. According to him, journalists, human rights defenders and civil society activists are among those facing this concern.<\/p>\n
Based on figures from the Taliban administration’s commission for dealing with migrants, more than 39,000 migrants have returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan, both forcibly and voluntarily, in less than a month. The Taliban administration said these people entered Afghanistan through various border crossings.<\/p>\n
