Russia\u2019s ambassador to Afghanistan has called for the creation of a special economic zone at Hairatan port during a meeting with the head of the state-owned companies directorate, a plan the two sides say will be jointly studied and implemented.<\/p>\n
According to a statement from the General Directorate of Emirati Companies, Dmitry Zhirnov raised the proposal during a meeting with Maulvi Ahmad Jan Bilal in Kabul. The body said the area is intended not only to store agricultural products but also to provide facilities for their processing and packaging.<\/p>\n
The Russian ambassador said such a zone would be important for expanding economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Russia and for regional economic development. Maulvi Ahmad Jan Bilal, head of the Taliban administration\u2019s General Directorate of Emirati Companies, also called the proposal important and said the two sides would begin joint work to examine ways of establishing it.<\/p>\n
