Sean Parnell, senior adviser to the US Secretary of War and head of the special panel reviewing the withdrawal from Afghanistan, said the panel has obtained confidential and “highly relevant” documents related to the 2021 suicide attack at Kabul airport.<\/p>\n
He said the documents were recently recovered and, in his words, were records that should have been produced earlier but had been kept in safes and hidden. Parnell added that after the special panel reviewed the files, it became clear why efforts had been made to keep them out of reach.<\/p>\n
Parnell announced the matter on his X social media account to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the suicide attack at Kabul airport’s Abbey Gate. He also stressed that he does not want to reveal the contents of the documents prematurely.<\/p>\n
In the 2021 suicide attack at Abbey Gate, 13 US service members and about 170 Afghan civilians were killed. The incident took place during the final days of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan and became one of the deadliest attacks of that period at Kabul airport.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
