Local sources told Amu that, after several days, the cause of the illness and poisoning affecting dozens of residents of Wali Asr township and parts of Dasht-e-Barchi in western Kabul remains unknown, and the Taliban administration has also offered no explanation. The situation has heightened concern among residents and sent many families to hospital.<\/p>\n
Amu reported that the Taliban administration\u2019s Ministry of Public Health did not respond to the outlet\u2019s questions about the cause of the incident. Meanwhile, two residents of Dasht-e-Barchi told Amu that the condition of the patients is worrying and that the number of people affected is rising.<\/p>\n
According to local residents, symptoms include headaches, nausea, severe diarrhoea and vomiting. Some suspect the situation may be linked to drinking water delivered by tankers in Qala-e-Naw and Wali Asr township, but the exact cause has not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n
Doctors also say serious investigations are needed to determine the definitive cause of the illness. Mohammad Ali Fattahi, a doctor, said: \u201cThe definitive cause needs further investigation. The Ministry of Public Health and the responsible bodies must investigate so that the exact cause can be identified. No one can speak scientifically about its cause and reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to health workers, most of the patients are children under the age of ten. Rahima Bahrami, a nurse, said: \u201cThe illness has increased, it has affected more children, we are receiving around 35 patients here, it has become very widespread and the situation is very bad.\u201d<\/p>\n
One Dasht-e-Barchi resident, who did not want to be identified, told Amu that after their child complained of stomach pain, the child soon began suffering from severe vomiting, and the family had to take the child to a doctor. Another resident said the illness has spread in their area as well as in Wali Asr township.<\/p>\n
Dasht-e-Barchi in western Kabul is one of the capital\u2019s most populated and largely Hazara-inhabited areas.
