Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said expanding trade between Iran and Afghanistan requires mutual cooperation and the reduction of border and customs barriers. He said Tehran and Kabul should work to strengthen economic ties so that the movement of goods between the two countries becomes easier.<\/p>\n
Baghaei said on Monday, August 24, 2026, in response to a question from an Irav reporter, that easing economic and trade cooperation, especially by reducing border and customs barriers, was also raised during Mullah Baradar\u2019s July meeting with Iran\u2019s president. According to him, steps in this regard have been placed on the agenda since that meeting.<\/p>\n
The spokesman for Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry also announced an increase in official exchanges between the two countries. He said meetings have also been held at the ministerial level and expressed hope that these contacts would help reduce existing obstacles and increase economic trade between Iran and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
He stressed that removing border and customs problems could play an important role in facilitating trade between the two countries. However, Baghaei did not provide specific details on the measures taken or when the facilitation would be implemented.<\/p>\n
His remarks come as, in recent months, both sides have repeatedly spoken about increasing trade between Iran and Afghanistan.
