The Taliban administration has handed over the body of Hasib Panjshiri, a commander of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front, to his relatives in Kabul after a three-day delay, sources said. The transfer reportedly came with two conditions: no slogans should be chanted at the funeral, and no photos or videos should be taken of the ceremony.<\/p>\n
According to the sources, his body was transferred from Charikar to Kabul on Sunday, September 1, and is due to be taken to Panjshir province for burial. The restrictions come as the handling of his body had already drawn widespread reaction.<\/p>\n
Hasib Panjshiri, known as “Hasib Qoway-e Markaz,” was one of the commanders of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front. He was killed on Thursday, August 29, in a clash with Taliban administration forces in Northern Salang.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross had also tried to take custody of his body from the Taliban administration. After his killing, a video circulated on social media showing one of the Taliban fighters pulling the hair of his body.<\/p>\n
The video triggered a strong reaction, and the National Resistance Front called on the United Nations to investigate the desecration of the commander\u2019s body. A number of Afghan political figures and former officials also described Hasib Panjshiri as one of the influential commanders in resistance against the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
