The Taliban administration says a 1,000-bed treatment and rehabilitation centre for drug addicts has opened in Nangarhar province, a facility officials said is intended to treat people suffering from addiction.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony was attended by Maulvi Abdulrahman Qasemi, deputy for civil affairs at the Taliban-run Interior Ministry’s Counter-Narcotics Directorate, the demand reduction director, the deputy governor of Nangarhar, the province’s police chief, a number of religious scholars, tribal elders and local officials and staff.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony, Maulvi Abdulrahman Qasemi said the Taliban leadership is trying to support and expand such centres so that, in his words, people caught in addiction can be saved from this harmful phenomenon and return to a healthy life.<\/p>\n
Separately, Alhaj Maulvi Mohibullah Hmas, Nangarhar’s police chief, congratulated the province’s residents on the opening of the centre. He claimed the facility had been built according to the necessary standards for treating addicts and that it was equipped with 50 large rooms, medicine, medical equipment and other required treatment facilities.<\/p>\n
