Ismail Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said on Sunday that Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir will travel to Tehran on Monday, Aug. 24, in a visit aimed at advancing Islamabad’s efforts to resume talks between Iran and the United States.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Pakistan has taken on the role of mediator in negotiations between Tehran and Washington to bring an end to the war between the two countries. The meeting comes as tensions in the region remain high.<\/p>\n
Alongside the announcement of the visit, Mohsen Rezaei, an Iranian security official, warned that any government that joins U.S. sanctions against Iran would be considered an enemy by Tehran and its interests would be targeted.<\/p>\n
Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, also said the country is engaged in a full-scale economic, military and security war. He added that the United States had mistakenly predicted Iran would suffer the same fate as Venezuela.<\/p>\n
On the other side, U.S. President Donald Trump reshared a map on his Truth Social account showing the Strait of Hormuz as “New American Territory.” The move came a day after he said he considered the waterway to be U.S. territory.<\/p>\n
The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, with a large share of energy transport passing through it.
