Sirajuddin Haqqani, acting interior minister in the Taliban administration, said during a visit to Bamiyan province that the demands of Afghanistan’s Hazaras and Shiites should be addressed, adding that these requests would be reviewed and amended gradually, “within the limits of available capabilities.”<\/p>\n
He also said no one should feel like a stranger in Afghanistan and stressed that maintaining social unity is in the interests of the people and the Taliban administration. According to him, despite minor differences, Afghans share both good times and bad and should work to prevent the return of past problems.<\/p>\n
In part of his remarks, the Taliban acting interior minister called on political figures and opponents living outside Afghanistan to return to the country. He claimed that after the announcement of a general amnesty, there is no plan for personal vendettas against opponents.<\/p>\n
Haqqani also said that anyone who, in his words, is not opposed to Afghanistan’s “Islamic and national interests” and does not seek to destabilise the country can live freely in Afghanistan. At the same time, he referred to the presence of Hazaras and Shiites in various parts of the country and said the Taliban administration appreciates them.<\/p>\n
