The Taliban-run governor\u2019s media office in Farah said a joint economic meeting between Afghan and Iranian trade delegations has finalized a contract to buy 50,000 tonnes of cement worth $2.5 million.<\/p>\n
According to the office, several other agreements were also discussed at the meeting and are expected to move into the implementation phase soon. The Taliban administration did not release further details about the signatories or the exact timing of the agreements taking effect.<\/p>\n
Based on the claim by the Taliban governor\u2019s media office, the meeting focused on expanding trade and transit, with both sides stressing increased movement of cargo trucks, easier conditions for traders and the removal of border obstacles.<\/p>\n
The two sides also agreed to implement three earlier memorandums of understanding and to expand cooperation in health, trade and technical services.<\/p>\n
The Taliban governor\u2019s media office described the agreements as part of efforts to increase trade between Afghanistan and Iran, and said they could help secure construction materials, boost exports and strengthen transit routes.<\/p>\n
Farah is one of Afghanistan\u2019s western provinces bordering Iran and is considered one of the key commercial crossings between the two countries.
