{"id":19896,"date":"2026-08-17T20:23:36","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T20:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/2026\/08\/17\/karzai-independence-day-education-girls-boys-afghanistan\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T20:23:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T20:23:36","slug":"karzai-independence-day-education-girls-boys-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/2026\/08\/17\/karzai-independence-day-education-girls-boys-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Karzai Marks Independence Day by Calling for Education for Afghan Girls and Boys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has, on the 107th anniversary of the country\u2019s independence, stressed the need to provide education for all Afghan children, both girls and boys, a matter highlighted by the Taliban administration\u2019s continued restrictions on girls\u2019 education.<\/p>\n<p>In a message posted on his X page on Wednesday, Aug. 28, Karzai said Afghanistan could move forward with &#8220;national cohesion and strength&#8221; and secure its rightful place in the international community.<\/p>\n<p>He also said safeguarding independence and making use of its achievements would only be possible when Afghanistan becomes a &#8220;strong and self-reliant&#8221; country. According to him, ensuring lasting peace and stability, preserving national unity, and giving young people access to science and knowledge are among the essential factors for the country\u2019s strength and progress.<\/p>\n<p>The remarks come as the Taliban administration has, since returning to power, suspended education for girls above sixth grade and also banned women and girls from continuing their studies at universities.<\/p>\n<p>Afghanistan\u2019s restoration of independence dates back to Aug. 28, 1919, when the country gained independence in its foreign policy after the Third Anglo-Afghan War.
