A Pakistani government official has said talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are still under way, a waterway through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil passes and where any disruption affects energy markets and regional security.<\/p>\n
The official told MS NOW that the talks are continuing alongside efforts to reach a peaceful end to the war. The source text also referred to U.S. tensions with Iran and the resulting insecurity in the region.<\/p>\n
The White House, in response to a question about the possibility of extending the ceasefire, declined to comment directly and referred MS NOW to remarks made on Monday by U.S. President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox News.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, on Monday denied the existence of any 60-day deadline in the text of the Islamabad understanding. He said Iran does not shape its policies under pressure or on the basis of deadlines, and makes decisions according to national interests.<\/p>\n
