China’s Foreign Ministry says Yu Xiaoyong, the country’s special envoy for Afghanistan, visited Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan from July 30 to Aug. 8, during which talks were held on ways to improve and expand relations between Kabul and Islamabad.<\/p>\n
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, he met in Turkey with Cihad Erginay, director general for South Asia at that country’s Foreign Ministry, and the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
The ministry added that during his visits to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Yu also met officials from both sides, with the focus of the talks on examining ways to improve ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan.<\/p>\n
The Chinese Foreign Ministry did not release further details about the meetings. The trip came as relations between Kabul and Islamabad have faced security and political challenges in recent months.<\/p>\n
