Armed clashes in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province have spread to several districts, as fighting in Nasi district between forces of the Taliban administration and men loyal to Juma Khan Fatah continues. At the same time, the Afghanistan Freedom Front said it has also clashed with Taliban forces in Zibak district.<\/p>\n
In a statement today, Sunday, 25 Asad, the Afghanistan Freedom Front said fighting between its forces and Taliban administration forces is ongoing at several points in Zibak district. The front claimed Taliban forces have suffered heavy casualties and losses in the clashes and are dispersing.<\/p>\n
Taliban local officials in Badakhshan have so far not commented on the clashes. The claims made by the Afghanistan Freedom Front have also not been independently verified.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, clashes between Taliban forces and men loyal to Juma Khan Fatah are also continuing in Nasi district. According to one source, Taliban forces have gathered in the districts of Maimai and Shaki and intend to move toward Nasi.<\/p>\n
Based on available information, the fighting in Nasi began last week. The Taliban administration has so far also said nothing officially about its forces’ battle with Juma Khan Fatah’s men.<\/p>\n
In an audio file attributed to Juma Khan Fatah, he said his war is not with the Taliban administration, but with the group’s units in Badakhshan. He accused these units, which he said are non-local forces, of killing civilians.<\/p>\n
