The Taliban administration has called for the expansion of Afghanistan\u2019s transit corridors to China and Central Asia, and for greater economic cooperation with Uzbekistan and China, at the Surkhan-Darya-China trade meeting. The request comes as Taliban officials speak of creating conditions for foreign investment in key sectors of Afghanistan\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
Nouruddin Azizi, acting minister of industry and commerce in the Taliban administration, said at the Termez International Trade Centre that Afghanistan wants to establish new transit routes through Central Asia and China. According to him, transporting Afghan export goods through Uzbekistan\u2019s trade networks to China and other regional markets could increase the level of economic cooperation among regional countries.<\/p>\n
Azizi also described China as one of Afghanistan\u2019s important economic partners and claimed that economic relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have entered a new phase in recent years. He said the movement of delegations, joint meetings and private sector agreements had paved the way for the expansion of trade, transit and investment.<\/p>\n
The acting minister of industry and commerce of the Taliban administration also said the administration was ready to create conditions for investment by Chinese and Uzbek companies in the mining, agriculture, processing industries, energy, manufacturing, machinery and economic infrastructure sectors. He added that processing raw materials inside Afghanistan and joint investment could create mutual and sustainable benefits for regional countries.<\/p>\n
Officials from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and China, along with a number of private sector representatives, attended the meeting. Mohammad Yousuf Wafa, the governor of Balkh, also stressed ties with Uzbekistan and investment opportunities in Balkh.<\/p>\n
On the sidelines of the event, Azizi and his accompanying delegation visited an exhibition of Uzbek products and goods. Termez, the capital of Surkhandarya province in southern Uzbekistan, is considered one of the key routes for travel and trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
