Abdullah Khanjani, head of the political office of Afghanistan\u2019s National Resistance Front, says the group has paid a heavy price over the past five years in the absence of significant international support, with more than 1,000 of its fighters killed.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Saturday, 24 August, in an interview with Belgian outlet VRT News, he said supporters of the National Resistance Front had also faced intimidation, arbitrary arrests and imprisonment during this period. According to him, residents of Panjshir were also collectively subjected to retaliatory measures.<\/p>\n
Khanjani described the situation in Afghanistan after the fall of Kabul as dire, saying the country had become politically isolated, socially divided and economically impoverished. He accused the Taliban administration of using coercion, extortion and ideological imposition to maintain its dominance.<\/p>\n
According to him, after NATO forces withdrew in Asad 1400, the National Resistance Front continued armed resistance against the Taliban administration in Panjshir. He added that despite military setbacks, the group still carries out guerrilla attacks against Taliban forces.<\/p>\n
The head of the political office of the National Resistance Front also described the growth of religious schools compared with state schools as concerning. He said the Taliban administration\u2019s views are taught in these schools without criticism.<\/p>\n
Khanjani also rejected claims of serious differences between Taliban factions in Kabul and Kandahar. According to him, both factions operate on the basis of rules agreed by the leadership circles in Kandahar, and the narrative about the existence of moderate figures in Kabul is an effort to win Western diplomatic tolerance.<\/p>\n
He warned that Afghanistan remains a safe haven for jihadist networks and regional extremist groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. According to him, the continuation of this situation could turn Afghanistan into a hub of extremism and pose a threat in future to regional and global security.<\/p>\n
The remarks came on the fifth anniversary of the Taliban administration\u2019s return to power, as anti-Taliban fronts have reported increased operations in some areas in recent days and weeks.
