Following fresh Israeli strikes on areas in southern Lebanon, a number of civilians have been killed and wounded, with Lebanese officials saying an attack in the town of Ansar killed all members of one family.<\/p>\n
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the repeated Israeli strikes on the south of the country, particularly Nabatieh province and its surroundings, saying they were a repeated violation of the so-called framework agreement and an infringement of international laws on the protection of civilians.<\/p>\n
He also said the actions amounted to a direct message against political dialogue and an attempt to disrupt US efforts to implement the agreement.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also described the escalation of Israeli attacks since dawn on the city of Nabatieh, Ansar, Deir al-Zahrani and surrounding villages as “extremely dangerous”, saying the strikes were accompanied by heavy shelling and had spread fear among residents.<\/p>\n
Nawaf Salam stressed that the seven people killed in the Israeli airstrike on the town of Ansar were civilians, including women and children. He said these victims could not be considered military targets.<\/p>\n
The Lebanese prime minister added that dealing with any possible military structure on Lebanese soil is solely the responsibility of the army and the country\u2019s legal institutions, and that this does not give Israel permission to violate Lebanon\u2019s sovereignty or put civilians\u2019 lives at risk.<\/p>\n
