The Afghanistan National Institute of Music has announced that, to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power, it will release a new song called “Adam and Eve” \u2014 a work the institute says focuses on freedom, equality, human dignity, hope, and the right to education and creation.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Friday, 23 Asad, the institute said the song will be released on Saturday, 15 August, at 7 p.m. Kabul time through the official pages of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan National Institute of Music said “Adam and Eve” was produced with performances by the Afghanistan Youth Orchestra and the institute’s singers, reflecting the voices of young Afghan girls and boys together. The music and lyrics are by Homayoun Morovat, while the arrangement and conducting were handled by Thiago Moreira da Silva.<\/p>\n
The institute said in its statement that, since the Taliban’s return, Afghan women and girls have been systematically denied access to education and large parts of public life, while freedom of expression and cultural activity have also faced broad restrictions.<\/p>\n
It added that the Taliban have also severely restricted music and artistic creation, and as a result, much of Afghanistan’s cultural and musical life has been silenced. According to the institute, this situation led students, teachers and musicians of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music to leave the country, and its activities continued after being relocated to Portugal.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the Afghanistan Youth Orchestra and other musicians affiliated with the institute have performed over the past five years in Portugal and in various countries around the world to reflect Afghan culture and the situation of the country’s people to the world through music.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan National Institute of Music stressed that exile has not been able to silence the voices of Afghan musicians, and that as long as Afghanistan’s young people learn, play and sing, “the voice of Afghanistan will remain alive.” The Afghanistan National Institute of Music was moved out of Afghanistan after the Taliban’s return to power and is now continuing its work from Portugal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
