Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said control and management of the border with Afghanistan are among the priorities of the Islamabad government and that measures to prevent illegal crossings are continuing. According to the ministry, movement across the border is carried out only within the framework of the visa system and existing agreements.<\/p>\n
Tahir Andrabi, spokesman for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters that Islamabad exercises effective control at all of its international borders, including the border with Afghanistan. He added that Pakistan will not allow any illegal crossing and that necessary measures along the borders will continue.<\/p>\n
The Foreign Ministry spokesman also stressed that the country insists on compliance with laws governing the movement of people and the management of international borders. He made the remarks in response to a question about issues related to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan-Pakistan border has become one of the main points of dispute between the two sides in recent years. Border management, the movement of people and the repeated closure of crossings have been among the main sources of tension in relations between Kabul and Islamabad.<\/p>\n
Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban administration of allowing armed groups, especially Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, to use Afghan territory to attack Pakistan, an allegation the Taliban administration denies, saying it does not allow Afghan soil to be used against other countries. In response, the Taliban administration has also accused Pakistan of attacks and violations of Afghanistan’s airspace and territory.<\/p>\n
These tensions, along with disputes over Afghan refugees and control of border crossings, have further strained ties between the two sides.
