Hamid Farhadi, a journalist, was released from Bagram prison today, Tuesday, 20 Asad, after spending two years in a prison run by the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
A member of Farhadi\u2019s family confirmed his release. The Etilaatroz newspaper website also published the news this morning, but removed it from its output after a few minutes.<\/p>\n
Farhadi was arrested in Kabul on September 3, 2024, by forces from the Interior Ministry of the Taliban administration. On September 19 of the same year, a Taliban court sentenced him to two years in prison on charges of \u201cpropaganda\u201d against the Taliban administration and cooperation with the Etilaatroz newspaper.<\/p>\n
The journalist was initially held in Pul-e-Charkhi prison and was later transferred to Bagram prison in March 2025. During his imprisonment, his family was allowed to visit him only once a month for 30 minutes.<\/p>\n
The arrest and trial of journalists in Afghanistan since the Taliban administration took control have been among the issues criticized by organizations supporting media and freedom of expression, which regard media activity as one of the main indicators of public space and civil rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
