According to Novosti, the Russian ambassador to Japan emphasized that Japan relinquishing its non-nuclear stance would constitute a clear violation of its commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which Japan joined as a non-nuclear state. The ambassador added that such a move could dangerously undermine regional security and naturally elicit responses from neighboring countries. Under Japanese domestic law, the country adheres to the principles of ‘not possessing, producing, or importing’ nuclear weapons. Within this framework, the United States does not deploy nuclear weapons at its military bases in Japan, nor do warships equipped with such weapons dock at Japanese ports. However, in recent months, some Japanese media have raised debates about the necessity of revisiting these principles or at least reconsidering them, a subject that has now been met with direct warnings from Moscow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Russia warns Japan that changing its non-nuclear status could harm Asia-Pacific security and violate nuclear non-proliferation commitments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":19323,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-19324","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19324","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=19324"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/19324\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19323"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=19324"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=19324"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/atlaspress.news\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=19324"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
