Five years ago today, the city of Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province, became the first provincial center to fall to the Taliban administration; an event that fundamentally changed the political and security landscape of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Following the fall of Zaranj, the Taliban’s advance in other provinces accelerated, and within a week, a large portion of the country’s territory slipped out of the control of the previous government. These developments culminated on August 15, 2021, with the Taliban forces entering Kabul and the collapse of the former government\u2014an event that marked the group’s full return to power.<\/p>\n
After the Taliban’s establishment, widespread restrictions were imposed in various social and civil spheres. Women and girls were most affected by these policies, being barred from education beyond the sixth grade, university studies, working in many institutions, and freely participating in society.<\/p>\n
