Randeep Goyal, spokesperson for India’s Foreign Ministry, responded to reporters’ questions regarding remarks by Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, spokesperson for the Pakistani Army, saying that such stances indicate Islamabad’s concern over the expanding ties between India and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
This response came after the Pakistani Army spokesperson criticized India-Afghanistan relations by referencing comments from a Taliban official about the historical and cultural commonalities between the two countries. He cited an interpretation of a Quranic verse that Muslims should not befriend ‘non-believers’ and alleged that the Taliban administration has grown close to India, describing the relationship as one of ‘master and servant.’ <\/p>\n
Verbal tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad have escalated amid the expanding ties between India and the Taliban administration in recent years. Although India has yet to officially recognize the Taliban government, it resumed its diplomatic presence in Kabul in 2022 and has increased political contacts with officials from the regime.<\/p>\n
In recent months, several Taliban officials, including the acting ministers of Foreign Affairs and Industry and Commerce, have met with Indian representatives.
