The Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines has announced that the export of mineral stones from the province has increased to the United States, Australia, China, Turkmenistan, Iran, and several European and Arab countries. According to the institution, the latest shipment included 50 tons of black stone sent to the United States.<\/p>\n
Officials of the Herat Marble Association say that improved production quality and standardized processing methods have facilitated access to global markets for Afghan stone. Abdul Naseer Amin, head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, stated that stone extracted from the Ghoryan district has also been exported to the United States. Additionally, Italian buyers have placed orders for approximately 14,000 tons of stone. He noted that exports to Turkmenistan, Iran, and some Arab countries are ongoing.<\/p>\n
Stone production and processing companies in Herat consider importing modern machinery a key factor in quality improvement. The manager of one stone production company said that two trucks carrying 50 tons of stone valued at 100,000 dollars were sent to the United States, marking Afghanistan\u2019s first stone export to that country.<\/p>\n
According to the Herat Marble Association, nearly 20 types of stone are extracted from mines in Herat province and several other provinces across the country. Dawood Sharifi, deputy of the association, said that the variety of stone colors in Afghanistan is remarkable; for instance, the mines in the Chishti district of Herat produce four different colors, and the mines in the Zindajan district produce various types of stone for both domestic and international markets.<\/p>\n
Mineral stone is considered one of Afghanistan\u2019s important natural resources, with part of it consumed domestically and a large portion exported after processing.
