The center reported that he was sentenced to one year in prison by a military court of the intelligence directorate on charges of &#8220;propaganda against the Taliban government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Afghanistan Journalists Center emphasized that Hatf was deprived of access to a lawyer during his arrest and trial, and that the court sentenced him without the presence of legal representation.<\/p>\n<p>The Afghanistan Media Support Organization also criticized the judicial process for Hatf and other detained journalists as violating principles of fair trial, highlighting that under Taliban rule journalists face opaque charges and lack adequate opportunities to defend themselves or appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Mujeeb Khalwatgar, Executive Director of the free media support organization Nai, said that detained journalists do not receive fair judicial proceedings and that arrests are made without clear legal grounds.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the Taliban administration has not released any details regarding the arrest, trial process, or reasons behind Bashir Hatf&#8217;s release.
