The Taliban’s Ministry of Energy and Water has announced that currently, 24 small and large dams across the country are either operational or nearing completion. However, experts say that despite Afghanistan’s abundant water resources, the country continues to face weak management and low electricity production.<\/p>\n
Motiaullah Abid, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that most of these dams are active and, in addition to generating hundreds of megawatts of electricity, irrigate thousands of hectares of farmland. He added that these facilities are also used for water resource management.<\/p>\n
Officials from the ministry further noted that work is ongoing on several other projects, including the Bashkabad Dam, Paltuni Dam, Shaflogh Dam, Qushtipe Canal in the north, Shahi Canal in the east, and Nahr al-Saraj in the south.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a significant portion of the country’s water flows annually into neighboring countries due to a lack of adequate infrastructure, and Afghanistan remains dependent on electricity imports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
