The Taliban administration reports that since the 6th of Hamal in the current year, floods, heavy rains, and storms across various parts of Afghanistan have claimed the lives of 351 people and injured 436 others. Officials from the Taliban\u2019s National Disaster Preparedness Department have stated that a total of 24,035 families have been affected by these events. Taj Mohammad Hemmat, deputy spokesperson for the department, said that under the leadership of Nooruddin Torabi, food and non-food assistance has been distributed to the affected families, including in Nuristan province.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, several residents of Logar province report total destruction of their homes and the loss of their possessions. Turyali, a resident of Logar, said his house has been completely destroyed and he currently has no place to live. Another resident, Mohammad Hasan, reported that the floods have wiped out all his belongings, leaving him with nothing.<\/p>\n
Simultaneously, the Taliban\u2019s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock confirmed that the recent floods have damaged agricultural lands, orchards, and crops in several provinces. However, spokesperson Sher Mohammad Hatami claimed that so far there has been no significant decline in the country\u2019s overall fresh fruit yields.<\/p>\n
Disaster management experts emphasize that reducing risks from natural events cannot rely solely on post-disaster aid distribution. They believe the lack of long-term planning, weak protective infrastructure, inadequate water resource management, and the absence of early warning systems have increased residents\u2019 vulnerability to floods.<\/p>\n
