The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported that between April 1 and June 30 of this year, 389 men and women were arbitrarily detained by the Taliban’s morality police officers. According to the latest report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, released today (Tuesday, July 28), an additional 65 individuals faced mistreatment by these officers during the same period. UNAMA stated that most of these detentions and encounters were due to reasons such as ‘lack of proper veil,’ Western-style beard and haircuts, and the playing or listening to music.
