The United States has canceled a planned visit to Washington by Lebanese Army Commander Joseph Aoun, originally scheduled for Tuesday, in response to a controversial statement issued by the Lebanese military.<\/p>\n
According to a report by Lebanon’s ‘Al Jadeed’ television network, the decision stems from U.S. authorities\u2019 dissatisfaction with the Lebanese army\u2019s recent stance on ongoing Israeli incursions into Lebanese territory. The statement in question, released by the Lebanese military leadership on Sunday, accused Israel of openly violating Lebanon’s national sovereignty and targeting United Nations forces.<\/p>\n
In reaction to the statement, influential U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said the Lebanese army should not protest Israeli violations while continuing to ignore the issue of Hezbollah\u2019s disarmament.<\/p>\n
