As part of the Taliban administration’s ongoing efforts to expand regional economic relations, Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with Jamshid Khodjaev, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, emphasizing the need to remove transit obstacles and provide more facilities for Afghanistan’s exports.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued in Kabul, the two sides discussed developing trade cooperation, increasing investment, implementing joint projects, and expanding transit collaboration. Baradar identified resolving issues related to exporting goods, facilitating transit passage through Uzbekistan, and strengthening customs infrastructure as priorities for bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n
He also called for easing visa issuance for merchants, cooperation in the energy sector, and the implementation of joint infrastructure projects. Baradar stressed the importance of creating opportunities to export Afghanistan’s agricultural products, fresh and dried fruits, foodstuffs, and minerals to markets in Central Asia, Russia, and China.<\/p>\n
In response, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister expressed his country’s readiness to increase investment in Afghanistan’s mining sector and stated that Tashkent will increase imports of meat and cotton from Afghanistan. He noted that Uzbekistan is prepared to build a $50 million zinc processing plant at the Hairatan border crossing.<\/p>\n
Khodjaev added that his delegation would cooperate with Afghan institutions in transportation, energy, agriculture, banking, trade, and human capacity development.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Ehsanullah Ehsan, Public Relations Director of Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment, recently said that about 300 Uzbek traders and investors have entered Afghanistan in recent days.<\/p>\n
Afghanistan, facing difficulties accessing regional markets due to banking restrictions and transit challenges, has focused in recent years on developing trade routes with Uzbekistan. Key projects include the Mazar-i-Sharif\u2013Herat railway and the Trans-Afghan railway, which connects Uzbekistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and Arabian Sea ports\u2014central components of this cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
