The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has announced that a special court handling cases of usurped land has confiscated approximately 25.65 acres of land known as the ‘Customized Township and Rustam Haidari’ in Kabul city in favor of the government. This move is part of a broader trend in recent years of declaring lands as state-owned.<\/p>\n
According to the ministry, the lands are located in Kabul’s 4th and 17th districts. After reviewing documents, real estate offices, and available evidence, the lands were deemed “Emirati”. A statement released on Saturday (August 24) stated that the Central Zone Special Court issued the order for the return of these lands.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Justice said the case was previously referred to the court by the “Commission to Prevent Land Usurpation” based on Article 17 of the relevant law. The ministry claims investigations have shown that this area was previously acquired and registered with the Kabul Municipality under government ownership.<\/p>\n
The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice emphasized that the process of verifying and confiscating so-called usurped lands continues throughout Afghanistan. Over the past five years, thousands of acres of urban and agricultural land in different provinces have been declared government property and seized. These decisions have sometimes met with protests from local residents.<\/p>\n
At the same time, courts dealing with land cases under the Taliban regime have been criticized for holding sessions without defense lawyers and lacking guarantees for fair trials.
