Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar has reported that the change in the approach of Donald Trump\u2019s administration\u2014from broad objectives concerning Iran to focusing on restoring the Strait of Hormuz to conditions before recent tensions\u2014signals that Washington is facing a strategic deadlock.<\/p>\n
According to the newspaper, after the US failed to establish a new balance in the Strait of Hormuz, it now faces two difficult options: continuing a protracted process without a clear outlook or moving towards an agreement. Al-Akhbar warned that any escalation in tensions could disrupt maritime traffic through this waterway, which is one of the main routes for global energy transportation.<\/p>\n
The report added that Trump’s announced proposal to impose a 20 percent tariff on commercial vessels aimed at keeping the Strait of Hormuz open did not receive significant international attention and was met with skepticism within the US. According to Al-Akhbar, some domestic circles had warned about the legal and military consequences of such a measure.<\/p>\n
