The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that following the resignation of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah Zamani has been appointed as the new captain of the national team in both Test and One-Day International (ODI) formats. Simultaneously, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been named vice-captain for both formats.<\/p>\n
Hashmatullah Shahidi, who took over the leadership of the national team on May 31, 2021, began his first series in January 2022 with a victory against the Netherlands. He resigned from the captaincy position yesterday.<\/p>\n
Shahidi captained the national team in a total of 55 matches, achieving 27 wins. Under his leadership, the national team secured victories against England, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and Sri Lanka at the 2023 World Cup, finishing in sixth place.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Afghanistan defeated England under Shahidi’s guidance in the Champions Trophy, securing fifth place. During his captaincy, the national team rose for the first time to seventh place in the One-Day International global rankings.<\/p>\n
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has expressed its appreciation for Shahidi’s service and record and wished Rahmat Shah success in his new role.
