The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced that out of a total 153 kilometers of the TAPI project route in Herat province, 127 kilometers are now ready, and 106 kilometers of gas pipeline have been installed. This project, which has long been regarded as one of Afghanistan’s major energy initiatives, has yet to reach the operational phase.<\/p>\n
According to the ministry’s statement, 108 kilometers of road have been constructed to facilitate monitoring of the project route, 78 kilometers of excavation have been completed, and 36 kilometers of pipeline have been buried underground. Additionally, the transfer of 98 kilometers of pipeline to the project’s initial camp has been finalized.<\/p>\n
The statement further noted that discussions with Afghan companies to establish a gas distribution network in Herat are ongoing. A private company has expressed readiness to invest approximately 420 million US dollars. The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum claims that upon realization of this investment, employment will be directly provided for 3,000 people and indirectly for around 70,000 others.<\/p>\n
Currently, 595 Afghan citizens are engaged in the project across security, administrative, and technical roles, with the majority working in security.<\/p>\n
The ministry asserts that upon completion of the TAPI project, Herat will become one of the country’s major industrial centers, enabling the activation of thousands of factories, increasing electricity production capacity, and fostering the development of chemical and petrochemical industries. However, these promises depend on the project’s practical completion and the establishment of extensive energy infrastructure in the country.<\/p>\n
