According to the directorate, the explosive device was located near residential homes and posed a serious threat to local residents.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, 18 July, the directorate released a video stating that the bomb was of the &#8220;FAB-500&#8221; type and was neutralized with the cooperation of the rapid response team from the demining organization &#8220;Halo Trust.&#8221; No further details were provided on how the bomb was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, in January of the last solar year, Taliban officials had reported the discovery and defusing of another 500-kilogram bomb in the Injil district of Herat province; an event highlighting that remnants of past wars continue to threaten civilians.<\/p>\n<p>After decades of conflict, Afghanistan remains one of the most contaminated countries in the world with landmines and unexploded ordnance.
