Farid Hamidi, former Attorney General of Afghanistan, has stated that the fall of Yaftal Payan district in Badakhshan province challenges the Taliban’s claim of nationwide governance. On Saturday, July 15, Hamidi wrote in a message on his X page that this event carries important lessons, including that “the violation of rights, political and ethnic monopoly of power, discrimination, and tyranny will not endure.” He emphasized that any form of governance based on exclusion and repression will face serious challenges.<\/p>\n
The former Attorney General also highlighted the human toll, especially the harm to civilians and the destruction of public infrastructure such as schools during the two decades of war, noting that even war and armed struggle must be conducted under the law and based on human values. These remarks come amid multiple reports over recent years documenting damage to educational facilities and civilian areas during conflicts.<\/p>\n
Regarding the newly established anti-Taliban group known as the “Homeland Army,” he said that while these forces could have caused widespread destruction and heavier casualties, they have focused on military objectives and adherence to the rule of law, thereby preventing further harm.<\/p>\n
Hamidi continued by stating that “the ruling group cannot maintain its oppressive, illegitimate, and discriminatory domination,” and he identified a solution to Afghanistan\u2019s crisis in mutual understanding, acceptance, social justice, elimination of discrimination, and respect for the dignity of both women and men.<\/p>\n
