The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health has inaugurated a new 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Khost Provincial Hospital. Officials stated that the project, which cost nearly 40 million Afghanis, includes a new building and modern medical equipment.<\/p>\n
Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services at the Ministry of Public Health, said during the opening ceremony that approximately 24 million Afghanis of the project budget was spent on purchasing and installing advanced medical devices. He explained that these devices are intended for continuous patient monitoring, mechanical ventilation, vital signs control, and providing other specialized medical services.<\/p>\n
Haqqani added that the Ministry of Public Health is striving to expand access to quality and specialized healthcare services across all provinces. However, health experts have consistently emphasized that infrastructure development must be accompanied by the provision of skilled human resources and sustainable facilities to ensure effective service delivery.<\/p>\n
Akhtar Mohammad Akrami, head of public health in Khost, welcomed the opening of the ICU and called for the provision of professional staff, medicines, and other essential supplies. He also highlighted the urgent need to establish a dedicated pediatric intensive care unit in the province.<\/p>\n
Residents of Khost expressed their happiness over the new ICU. They noted that previously, due to the lack of advanced equipment and ICU services, critically ill patients had to be transferred to Kabul and other provinces, with some dying en route.<\/p>\n
