The meeting primarily sought to garner support from religious and social figures for the law’s enforcement.

Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s Minister for the Promotion of Virtue, said at the meeting that Afghanistan has faced not only “military colonialism” but also “intellectual colonialism” over recent decades. He believes that Islamic Sharia has not been properly explained to the people. He described societal reform as a collective responsibility and called on scholars, tribal elders, elites, and the media to cooperate with his ministry in enforcing Islamic rulings.

Hanafi identified unity and solidarity as essential conditions for societal growth, adding that reform must begin with individuals’ morals to create a foundation for reducing corruption and immoral acts. He urged the attending scholars to play a more active role in raising awareness and preventing immoral behaviors within their respective areas.

Maulvi Syed Ali Siddiqullah, Deputy for Hearing Complaints at the ministry, also stated that societal reform is not the responsibility of a single institution and is unattainable without the cooperation of the people, scholars, and tribal elders. According to him, broad unity and coordination are critical to achieving this goal.

During the meeting, several representatives of religious scholars from central zone provinces, including Panjshir and Bamyan, expressed their support for the law’s enforcement. Maulvi Abdul Kabir, a representative of Panjshir’s scholars, said that enjoining good is not solely the duty of one ministry but a responsibility shared by every Muslim. Maulvi Sharafuddin Saadat, representing Bamyan’s scholars, emphasized that the law is not limited to issues like hijab or music but covers extensive aspects of social life.

However, repeated emphases on “law enforcement” come amid numerous reports in recent months detailing social restrictions and pressures on citizens in various sectors. Critics argue that a rigid, one-sided focus on enforcing this law without addressing fundamental public needs and economic challenges could widen the gap between society and the Taliban administration.

At the conclusion of the meeting, officials from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue called for continued cooperation among religious scholars, tribal elders, and media as key factors in strengthening unity and achieving what they termed “social reforms.” This remains a subject of debate and concern within parts of Afghan society.

The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue urges cooperation to enforce Islamic law amid concerns over social restrictions in Afghanistan.

[17,4

post-17729","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics
["GET
